[Regnum] Polish farmers protesting against the import of Ukrainian grain into the European Union opened vans with grain near the Yagodin-Dorogusk border checkpoint, the Ukrainian publication UNIAN reported on Sunday, February 11.“Polish farmers are attacking Ukrainian trucks with grain at the checkpoint - they are trying to empty the grain from the trucks, opening them with grinders,” says a message published on the publication ’s Telegram channel.
Earlier in January, Polish farmers who took part in a protest against the import of goods from Ukraine blocked roads in 200 points across the country, bringing tractors and other equipment onto the roads. Protesters demanded an end to duty-free imports of agricultural products from Ukraine and other countries outside the European Union.
As Regnum reported, at the end of last month, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Poland, Czeslaw Sekierski, called for the protection of Polish farmers affected by the export of Ukrainian agricultural products. He stressed that trade liberalization, introduced in 2022 and allowing Ukraine to import its goods without customs duties, was very beneficial for the Ukrainian economy, but at the same time it dealt a blow to Polish farmers.
