I remember having a conversation with a commie about alternate economic systems, which this is, government as a middle-broker between private transactions; you pay taxes, taxes go through government to welfare, which theoretically suppresses the recipients' wage/hour.

I said, "you do that, and you will see a cash and barter system instead."
