[CapitalGazette] A grand jury indicted Anne Arundel County Register of Wills Erica Griswold on Friday after state prosecutors accused the elected official of cashing a check worth thousands of dollars intended to pay a citizen's inheritance tax. Griswold, 50, has been charged with misconduct in office, misappropriation by fiduciary and theft, the indictment shows.. According to the indictment, on or about June 16, the Anne Arundel County Register of Wills Office received a cashier's check worth $6,645. It was sent by an unnamed beneficiary of an estate open with the office who wanted to pay their non-probate inheritance tax.... Weeks later, in early August, the beneficiary contacted the office after receiving another invoice for the inheritance tax. According to the indictment, beginning in August and "continuing for several months thereafter, numerous employees of the Office communicated to Griswold the importance of repaying the $6,645." |

#3 The county neighbors Baltimore and includes Annapolis. It is a mix of economic and social classes. There is some spillover of crime from Baltimore and the usual corruption of a Dem state capitol. |

#2 Given, Ms. Griswold was the 1st African American to hold this County Register position in its 246-year history. IF convicted. She will be a major embarrassment to the 100's of 1000's honest hard working minorities in various government civil service positions. Why do I say IF? Aside from the obvious PC & DEI political issues at play here. As others have pointed out. Her salary pays 6 figures a year, and something doesn’t seem to add up over this check for a few thousand dollars. |
