#6  The airlines took the bailouts, so they do govts bidding. The consumer is much farther down the line.

#4  I flew United from Louisville KY to Chicago for a Oracle CIO conference. About Indianapolis IN the pilot announced 'a technical problem' and a necessary return to Louisville KY.

A successful landing and taxi without 'gating'. Parked on the ramp and up comes a fuel truck.
Glug, glug, glug and we were back on our way to Chicago. 3x more travel time, no extra miles.

Amusingly, a keynote speaker at the conference was the United CIO touting improved efficiency of their scheduling algorithms and maintenance cycles.

#3  I don't care if he's a drag queen if he could just run an airline that was safe and reliable. I don't fly much anymore but my memories of United Airlines from the days when I had to fly to other cities for work are not good.
