According to the permanent representative, the Maidan in Kyiv was conceived solely as a means of weakening Russia in the interests of the West; the Ukrainians were cynically used. The most important element of the coup was the “criminal provocation of the radical opposition with the shooting of protesters,” which resulted in the death of over 100 people. The opposition disavowed the transition agreements signed under the guarantee of Germany, France and Poland and removed the then President of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, from power , in violation of the country’s constitution, Nebenzya recalled. As a result of anti-government protests, a “bloody anti-constitutional coup” occurred.
