Apple Pays $25 Million to Settle Claims It Discriminated Against Americans in Favor of Hiring Foreign Workers
2023-11-12
[Breitbart] Apple has agreed to pay a paltry $25 million settlement to resolve allegations of discriminating against U.S. citizens and legal residents in its hiring practices. The DOJ charged the Silicon Valley giant with giving preference to foreign workers by failing to advertise open positions on its recruitment website in a scheme to ensure it could fill vacancies with foreign workers it could sponsor to enter the country.
An H1-B game? Lovely.
Engadget reports that Apple has settled claims brought by the DOJ, agreeing to pay $25 million over allegations of discriminating against U.S. citizens and permanent residents during its hiring process. This case is particularly noteworthy as it is the largest settlement the DOJ has obtained under the anti-discrimination provision of the Immigration and Nationality Act, but even taking that into consideration, it is less than a drop in the bucket for Apple, which enjoyed profits of about $100 billion in 2022.

#10  Name me any tech innovation at Apple since Jobs died.

Zippo. It is a cash cow to be milked. Change the color and declare it's new and improved.

#8  Apple could just move abroad.

I wish they would. Good riddance. But they won't because they have too much invested in all the politicians they've bought. Then they'd have to bribe all the politicians in some other country.

And, yes, settlements like these should be designed not just to compensate the aggrieved parties but to punish the offender to such an extent that they won't be tempted to do it again.

#7  Someone should mention this to the DOJ w/r/t their lawsuit against SpaceX for requiring US citizenship.

Stop that and the scheme stops

#2  ^But its customers would.

#1  Apple could be fined $25 Million per week for the next 10 years and it's bottom line wouldn't feel the impact. Settlements such is this ensure no one goes to jail and the minimum corporate disruption is experienced.

Wrist slap with a wink.
