Israeli Health Ministry Asks Civilians with Gun Licenses to Serve as Security Guards at Hospitals
2023-10-20
[Breitbart] Israel’s Health Ministry is asking civilians with gun licenses to serve as security at hospitals as the war with Hamas continues.

The Times of Israel reported that the Health Ministry is asking gun license holders to volunteer for security, both at hospitals "and healthcare facilities."

Hospitals and healthcare locations in Israel could face a shortfall in security because some guards serve in the military and have been called up for service against Hamas. Consequently, the longer the war with Hamas lasts, the greater the need will be for civilian volunteers to serve as security.

Civilian gun ownership in Israel is low, compared to a country like the United States, but Israeli leaders are working to broaden gun ownership by expediting the licensing process.

This expedition has contributed to a run on guns in areas like Samaria, where, on October 11, 2023, Breitbart News noted unarmed residents were flooding into offices to fill out the paperwork necessary to secure a gun license.

The Jewish News Syndicate noted, "The local Maccabi health clinic was teeming with crowds scrambling for health applications for gun permits. It was tense but congenial as doctors scrambled to fill out forms." There was also a line at the Town Hall, as those seeking gun licenses went through the process to show proof of residency.

#13   A gun is not a magic wand.

Of course. A gun in my own hand would be useful for hitting people over the head ...and missing barns. But I do assume that other people with guns train to be able to use them. Especially in Israel, where the bad people are very bad indeed.

#12  if you trained with M16 - switching to a hand gun requires dropping everything you learned about shooting

Not completely. Same basic fundamentals apply. Only how the muscle groups need to act to put metal on meat changes. Still prefer the M-16/AR platform but I can hit what I want with a pistol. Just took an afternoon of training to relearn things.

#9  Not going argue hand guns with Americans - never argue religion.

#8  A good guy with a gun is still a lot likelier to hit a bad guy guy than a good guy unarmed.

#7  ^Well Anakin, if you trained with M16 - switching to a hand gun requires dropping everything you learned about shooting.

#6  A gun is not a magic wand. A hand gun requires a lot of training

No and it does require some training to use effectively. I would rather have some fellow CCW people around me than everyone disarmed, even if they are not at soldier level effectiveness. One determined asshole with a gun, even untrained, can put some serious hurt on the other fellows. If I was the Israeli government, I would be starting to foster a good gun culture there. Despite Israel's history, there has never been a real gun culture there and the people you see carrying M-16s are reservists that are required to have one on them at all times. Once out, the guns are pretty rapidly abandoned unless you are a West Bank settler.

#5  A gun is not a magic wand. A hand gun requires a lot of training. In any case, the tragedy in Gaza Envelope happened because people were sheltering from rockets. In cases were they did get weapons, it were assult rifles and Hamas attackers died.

#4  Yes, but as has been demonstrated repeatedly, Grom, guns work beautifully against knife killers and murderous car drivers. Also wannabe kidnappers, rapists, and shoplifters, should the latter become a serious problem.

Also, guards with guns have been known to kill jacket wallahs out on the street where people are relatively thinly spaced instead of inside whatever crowded building they’d planned to enter.

#3  mossomo, guns don't work against suicide boomers.

#2  Well, it isn't using the situation to push Covid jabs, so there's that.

#1  Cannot believe how disarmed the Israelis were and are. And Israeli's almost all have some military training. Baffles me.
