Netanyahu tells Israel 'We are at war' after Hamas militants launch surprise attack, at least 22 people dead
2023-10-07
[NY Post] The ruling Hamas militant group in the Gaza Strip carried out an unprecedented, multi-front attack on Israel at daybreak Saturday, firing thousands of rockets as dozens of Hamas fighters infiltrated the heavily fortified border in several locations by air, land and sea and catching the country off-guard on a major holiday, killing at least 22 people.

Six hours after the invasion began, Hamas militants were still fighting gunbattles inside several Israeli communities in a surprising show of strength that shook the country.

Social media was replete with videos of Hamas fighters parading what appeared to be stolen Israeli military vehicles through the streets and at least one dead Israeli soldier within Gaza being dragged and trampled by an angry crowd of Palestinians shouting "God is Great."

The military declined to give details about casualties or kidnappings as it continued to battle the infiltrators.

"We are at war," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a televised address, declaring a mass mobilization of the country’s army reserves. "Not an ’operation,’ not a ’round,’ but at war."

"The enemy will pay an unprecedented price," he added, promising that Israel would "return fire of a magnitude that the enemy has not known."

Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip infiltrated Saturday into southern Israel and fired thousands of rockets into the country while Israel began striking targets in Gaza in response.

The serious invasion on Simchat Torah, a normally joyous day when Jews complete the annual cycle of reading the Torah scroll, revived painful memories of the 1973 Mideast war practically 50 years to the day, in which Israel’s enemies launched a surprise attack on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish calendar.

Comparisons to one of the most traumatic moments in Israeli history sharpened criticism of Netanyahu and his far-right allies, who had campaigned on more aggressive action against threats from Gaza.

Political commentators lambasted the government over its failure to anticipate what appeared to be a Hamas attack unseen in its level of planning and coordination.

REMINDER 🚨: If you're wondering why Joe Biden's administration took forever to say something about the Iranian-funded Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel today, look no further than who Joe Biden appointed as the Senior Director for Intelligence at the National Security Council in 2021, within two weeks of being inaugurated.

Biden appointed Maher Bitar as Senior Director for Intelligence at the National Security Council.

As I reported in 2021, Bitar has a long history of terror associations, dating back to his time in college at Georgetown where he was on the executive board of the school's chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine, which has documented ties to Islamic terrorist organizations including Hamas, Hezbollah, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and the Marxist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP)."

Of course, Islamic terrorists feel empowered to attack Israel. Joe Biden just gave Iran 6 billion dollars, and his administration is full of jihadis like Bitar. Our entire national security is at risk because Hamas and Hezbollah sympathizers like Bitar are currently directing our intelligence within our National Security apparatus. "

#51  All you need is enough high explosive, delivered by cannon, mortar, howitzer, and rocket. Make a grid, destroy a block, shoot anyone crawling out of the rubble. Start on one side, work your way to the other. And every night, execute your Hamas prisoners with pig grease and flamethrowers, broadcast live to Gaza. Assassinate people who donate to Hamas. They know what to do, the Romans showed them the way. Just ask Carthage what motivation can do.

#50  Thinking of what I'd call a bunch of internationalists gathering to bind my legs and pick my bones. This would be polite, and let the fighters fight.

#49  #44-47. Spot on. Any Joooo vs "Gentile" (NB: I'm Catholic) arguments are for another time. Let Israel defend themselves. Vigorously. Not just in Gaza, either. Cyberfuck Iran. Now.

#48  Israel don't have power and resources for that.
They need to be intelligent how to fight and how to target.

#44  Jews don't like to upset gentiles? Really?

Or is it just that every modern establishment is trying to outdo each other in limpdick humanist socialist cuckoldry, no matter what their dire imperatives? Israel is no exception.

I mean can you slay 'from morning to evening and the evening of the next day, ten thousand enemy' like David today?

#43  If you assume Gentiles all think the same like you did then you can't now say i am different...did you made allowance in your speech for me? You did not. And by your this last topic you still do not understand. It is not the Gentiles it is the Marxist left that hates western world. And that includes some Jews too as you very well know.

If you are dilettante and lazy with your discourse and start attacking people that support you, you end up with no friends. Use chirurgic precision in speech.

The most important thing is not to let them take the hostages into Gaza.

The second to remind USA (if there anybody half-way sane left at the top) that with Afghanistan & Ukraine, American allies confidence is shaken.

#26  And now, a well oiled machine swings into action: The United Nations Security Council is due to meet on Sunday after Palestinian Islamist group Hamas launched the biggest attack on Israel in years on Saturday, diplomats said.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the attack by Hamas and urged "all diplomatic efforts to avoid a wider conflagration, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said in a statement.

And we all know that it means.

#24  Obviously, the "judicial reform" protests didn't do the job of ousting Netanyahu again, so this attack is designed to trigger a response, which even if it was limited to a strongly worded protest to the UN would be considered a "disproportionate response," to wit, a "war crime."

Yes, curious indeed.

Weeks, possibly months in planning, I cannot accept the possibility that IDF, US Intelligence, other nation's intelligence services (satellite imagery, signals, human intelligence) missed this one.

I'm simply not buying it.

Likely the ATGMs / UAS in common use in the Ukraine (ours and RU) will be used by Hamas when Israel responds. And this attack is meant to elicit a heavy response by Israel...
