“With the [self-healing] material, everything is fine, it works, but the design needs to be finalized. We have now moved from a flat layered material to the development of a cellular material, that is, these are some cells filled with this material, ” he said in an interview with TASS.
Koshlakov clarified that at the moment, research work is being carried out on this topic and the initial version of such material has already been worked out with the Zvezda Research and Production Enterprise. The general director noted that the Keldysh Center intends to create and test a new design in the near future.
He explained that gloves and elbow joints wear out the most in spacesuits.
“The layered material, when the arm is bent at the elbow, becomes thinner, and the cellular structures hold the material in order to preserve its properties,” Koshlakov added and pointed out that these works are being carried out almost on an initiative basis.
