UPS is hit with wave of job applications over new $170,000 pay package for drivers - but they'll have to toil in depots and on worst driving shifts for five years before they earn it
2023-08-12
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Searches for UPS or its full name, United Parcel Service, have increased by 50 percent since the deal was announced in late July

  • All UPS employees begin working on the packing floor inside their hubs and becoming a full-time driver can take years

  • The pay and benefits are still significantly better than non-unionized delivery services like FedEx and Amazon

#9  At a certain point Amazon will have the infrastructure to begin to absorb that business. Their cost structure will allow it.

#8  $170 k, probably half cash and half benefits, so $85 k after 10-20 years work. So $40+ per hour? Sounds like good pay for the work required. Now if they are doing roofing in Texas in the summer…

#7  I worked for GM from 2000 until 2007. There was worry, at the time, that the UAW would eventually slather on so many wage and benefit demands that it would crash the company. I left just in time.

#5  I agree with #3, but #4 is just hyperbole

#4  $170K less the Teamster Union Dues (which will go up), Teamster M*dical Dues (which will...), Teamster Retirement ...LOL... Fund (ditto) and the US/State/Local taxes will munch on the rest of the 'raise'. So the big winner is Organized Crime the Union.

#2  ...Nobody is reading the fine print.

That 170k is salary and benefits. No UPS driver is going to bring home that much in cash.
