Barack Obama's personal chef is seen swimming laps with ease - as questions are raised over how he drowned in just 8ft of water while paddle boarding at ex-president's Martha's Vineyard mansion

[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
He was last seen struggling to stay above water. When dispatchers sent crews to the scene, they relayed: 'Edgartown Fire and Water rescue personnel... For a 40-year-old male, possible drowning.' Witnesses first told cops Sunday night that a man - later identified as Campbell - went underwater and then briefly reappeared as he struggled to stay afloat, before submerging again around 7.46pm. The witness - who was not identified - was paddle boarding on Edgartown Great Pond with Campbell.
![]() (Chicago Sun Times) – […] Tafari Campbell, 45, known as one of the chefs who brewed White House honey ale beer while Obama was in office — using honey from Michelle Obama’s famous South Lawn garden — went to work for the former first couple when they left the White House. ORIGINAL OUTLINE BELOW The body of an unidentified black male, aged 43, was found this morning after an overnight search for a missing paddleboarder in the marsh pond behind the Martha’s Vineyard home of President Barack Obama. Apparently, a call for search and rescue units came from the Obama home last night, and the body was located in 8′ of water this morning. VIA DAILY MAIL – […] A massive joint-agency search resumed Monday morning for the African American male who was last seen wearing all black without a lifejacket, MV Times reported.

#36 The other reason that this is not some kind of a hit is that a marginal swimming sous chef doesn’t bring a paddle board to work. The owner of the paddle board has a problem if a dog paddle level swimmer is on the board without a life vest. If the man is wearing a life vest, there is no reason to abandon him even if he is unconscious. |

#33 If he was wearing a life jacket. He should have been, especially if he was not a strong swimmer. Surfers usually wear a leash attached to their ankles and the tail section of their surfboards so they don't have to swim all the way to the beach after a wipeout. Dunno if that's common practice among paddle boarders or not but in cases like this it might come in handy. So, yes, if he had been following common sense safety practices he should not have simply drowned. And so, barring a medical problem, this case stinks. And whatever the medical examiner says, I wouldn't put much stock in it. |

#30 He was a crappy swimmer. I watched it and he did 300 yards in 35 minutes, and he was wearing fins. He could have never made it to shore without a floatation device. |

#28 In a statement, the Obamas said of one of the top chefs in the White House kitchen,... When the food truck delivers to those kitchen's, is that how stuff gets into the WhiteHouse, etc. via the chefs? Thus, do they know too much? |

#26 We live in the age of people calmly using their phone to video someone else's fatal event instead of helping out. Not saying that happened here, but it's the rule not the exception. |

#25 It is tough to say that the other person did the wrong thing. You would have to know the lighting and the size and life saving capabilities of the other person. The victim sounds like a strong swimmer under normal conditions. I suspect that this was more like a heart issue unless he knocked himself unconscious on the board while falling from a standing position. A large unconscious dark gentleman with low BMI is not an easy save at night in a dark pond. Joe Delaney’s death comes to mind. As for wet work, why do this near or on the property? Send him out for daiquiri ingredients and hold him up at the grocery store. It never makes the news. |

#24 Tuesday Water temperature in Wasque Point (Chappaquiddick Island) WATER TEMPERATURE 71 ºF The USSS has to have awareness of people 100ft offshore of the Lightbringer's residence. So the question is, where was Tafari Campbell's residence? Was he part of an extended household in residence, or a day worker who resided elsewhere? If the latter, why was he offshore, on a paddleboard, at night, in proximity to another person offshore? I looked at the image of the property on goggle maps and there appears to be a storage site just off the beach for several boards and kayaks. Since Tafari was an adequate swimmer, what incapacitated him, a medical emergency or recreational substance? Did the reporting other paddleboarder have a Chappaquiddick moment, since they were close enough to see the struggling Tafari and yet apparently made no effort to rescue? Did they call 911, or was it the USSS? If the latter, who were they monitoring to have become aware? Somehow, the lack of significant media coverage and information has a slightly fetid odor, musky and perhaps already slipping into the deep memory hole reserved for very powerful people's detritus? |

#23 "... chef was incapacitated in that he could not use the paddle board as floatation device.." consistent w hypothermia i.e. when your body temp goes down to say 94F after being in cold water your coordination decreases significantly and you get confused |

#21 Shades of Larry Sinclair. I'll venture to say this chef was another one of Obama's gay lovers. So the official story is that chef and another person were out paddle boarding sunday night. That person saw chef fall/struggling/drowning in 8 foot of water, chef was incapacitated in that he could not use the paddle board as floatation device, a mere thirty steps (100ft = ~30 adult steps) from the shore. Instead of helping, the other person left the scene. Sounds like wet works to me. |
