Protests erupt in Mukalla over collapsing currency and living standards
2023-07-14
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] On Wednesday, the city of Mukalla in Hadhramaut governorate, witnessed angry popular protests against the rise in the dollar exchange rate and the collapse of the local currency.

According to local sources, the demonstrators, who blocked a number of streets in the city of Mukalla, called on the government loyal to Saudi-led coalition to intervene to stop the deteriorating economic situation and to immediately work to alleviate their suffering.

To protest the collapse of the currency and power outages for long hours, they also closed money exchange shops and blocked main streets with stones and burned tires

These protests come in conjunction with massive popular demonstrations in the cities of Aden, Abyan
...a governorate of Yemen. The region was a base to the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army terrorist group until it dropped the name and joined al-Qaeda. Its capital is Zinjibar. In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirate after seizing control of the region. The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Yemeni government forces launched an effort to re-establish control of the region when President-for-Life Saleh was tossed and the carnage continues...

... a Yemeni governate located in the southwestern corner of the Arabian Peninsula. It is the stomping grounds on the southern secessionist al-Harak movement
and other southern cities under the occupation authority. These protests condemn the collapse of the economic living and security conditions, the collapse of the local currency, power outages, and the continued disregard of the pro-coalition government for the suffering of citizens.

The protests come amid a terrifying collapse in living and security conditions in areas controlled by coalition factions, at a time when the pro-coalition government refuses to find any solutions to address complex crises.
