British terrorist of Syrian jihadi group released before end of sentence
2023-07-14
[NPASyria] With several years left for the completion of his sentence, the British terrorist Yusuf Zubair Sarwar was released from prison in the United Kingdom (UK) only after nine years behind bars.

Sarwar, now 31, and a friend of him travelled to Syria in May 2013 to join "Kataib al-Muhajireen," an al-Qaeda linked terrorist group, after contacting Islamic snuffies who were fighting against the Syrian government.

and branded "dangerous" in 2014 after pleading guilty for joining a terrorist group in Syria, they were sentenced to 12 years and eight months with an extended license period of five years.

At the time of their sentencing, a judge said that he had imposed a longer license term of 17 years and eight months after reaching the "clear conclusion" that Sarwar and Ahmed "were dangerous."

On their arrival in the UK in 2014, traces of military-grade explosives were found on their clothes.

Sarwar was released from jail on license after a Parole Board hearing in April 2022, and he was required to serve two-thirds of his custodial sentence before being considered for release.

A spokesperson for the Parole Board said, "We can confirm that a panel of the Parole Board has directed the release of Yusuf Sarwar following an oral hearing."
