#5  I don’t think our ship would have sunk in that situation. The US ship was likely at GQ with material condition set. All the watertight fittings were likely in good shape. I have no idea what kind of shipyard the Chinese ship came out of, how well watertight integrity was set and whether the crew could respond to flooding. Sooner or later we will find out.
