Carnival Sunshine Cruise Ship Battered By Massive Waves, Leaving Multiple Decks Flooded
2023-05-30
[ZERO] Passengers aboard the Carnival Sunshine had a nightmarish experience as the cruiseliner attempted to return to its home port in Charleston on Friday. The cruise ship was battered by rough seas and powerful winds, flooding the lower decks. The situation worsened late Friday night into early Saturday when passengers saw crew members putting on life jackets.

#12  One of my many cruises went to Canada last fall during hurricane Fiona that hit eastern Canada. Changed the itinerary six times, missed two ports completely, but never had rough seas.

Carnival is considered third class transportation.

#11  Flooding the lower decks? Do lower decks even have cabins and/or windows and balconies?

I suspect one of the lower deck openings for going on/off and resupply was battered open and let in a lot of water. I also suspect that the crew putting on life jackets were doing so because they had to go out on deck for some reason and you'd be a fool to do that without a life jacket during a storm, but the passengers who saw them were drunk/stupid.

Of course who knows, reporters are notoriously lazy.

#10  Never been on a cruise liner and most probably never will, mostly because I hear they nickel and dime you to death and don't let you bring your own drinks, but being cooped up out in the middle of the sea isn't my idea of fun.

#5  Modern cruise ships do look like top-heavy, floating balcony walls and I imagine all those windows and doors are less waterproof than an actual hull in a serious blow?

#4  Do these people not know how to check the weather report?

#3  I never liked going fishing with more than one other guy in the boat. Open water with 4000 drunks, never happen.

#2  Not sure vomit bags help when one is shitting one's pants.

#1  Perhaps that is a good time to put on a life jacket yourself.
