NIA Nets Jaish-e-Mohammad Operative Who Passed Sensitive Information To Pakistan
2023-05-24
[OneIndia] In a major success for the agencies, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a member of the Jaish-e-Mohammad in Jammu And Kashmir.

Sources tell OneIndia that the arrested operative Mohammad Ubaid Malik was arrested from Kupwara as he was found to be passing on information to his Pakistan based handlers.

The source cited above also said that Malik had been passing on sensitive security information, especially on the movement of troops in Jammu And Kashmir.

Post his arrest, the NIA found incriminating material on him which reinforced his involvement in acts of terror. An NIA official said that it was found that he was in touch with two Jaish-e-Mohammad operatives in Pakistan and would constantly pass on information to them.

The arrest is part of NIA's crackdown against conspiracies hatched by proscribed terrorist organisations across the border to destabilise India through attacks in J&K," the NIA said.

Malik was arrested in a case relating to June 2022 when the NIA had carried out raids at over a dozen locations in Jammu And Kashmir. The NIA said that this case is part of the drive to dismantle the terror network in J&K.

Raids were also carried out at Srinagar, Pulwama, Budgam, Awantipora, Shopian, Anantnag, Handwara and Poonch.

Official sources say that the raids are aimed at busting the terror networks that are hatching conspiracies to carry out attacks on the security forces. If one looks at the recent attacks, they have been aimed at the security forces only. This is because the over ground operatives are active and the informants continue to pass on information to the Pakistan handlers.

The recent raids pertain to the conspiracies, which are hatched physically as well as on the internet. They also pertain to the attacks carried out using sticky and magnetic bombs as well as with improvised explosive devices and small arms, officials said.

NIA officials also pointed out that the explosives are delivered by using drones. These explosives are primarily being used to strike at the minorities in Jammu and Kashmir and the security forces.
