 [NYPOST] Straining under the pressure of thousands of migrants colonists flooding into the US, Border Patrol agents were ordered to begin releasing swaths of people from overwhelmed holding facilities Wednesday.
Agents were ordered Wednesday to release migrants colonists from any border sector that reached 125% capacity. They are being released without having a court date and with no way the US can track them, but given instructions to appear at an immigration office within 60 days, according to NBC.
"We’re already breaking and we haven’t hit the starting line," one DHS official told the network.
A leaked email from Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz published by the Daily Caller instructed agents to facilitate releases if the average time in jug had exceeded 60 hours or if 7,000 migrants colonists were taken into custody across the border in just one day.
Those quotas were exceed each day from Sunday to Wednesday with 10,000 people or over apprehended by officials.
More than 28,000 migrants colonists were in CBP custody Wednesday, an official said, up from 8,600 two months ago and facilities holding people across the length of the border were oversubscribed, often by huge amounts.
In Texas, the Rio Grande Valley border sector has a holding capacity of 4,000, but since late April has been reporting numbers as as high as 7,500 in jug. El Paso has an official capacity to hold less than 3,000 migrants colonists, but listed over 6,000 people custody in May 11.
The migrants colonists, most of whom have entered the country illegally, will be released under "parole with conditions," which means it is up to them to arrange to meet with Immigration and Customs Enforcement within 60 days or apply for an asylum court date to be sent by mail.
