Artificial Intelligence to Replace Teachers: Bill Gates |
2023-05-04 |
Speaking during a "digital learning conference" in San Diego last week, Gates outlined the path he believes the AI intrusion into education would take. "At first, we’ll be most stunned by how it helps with reading — being a reading research assistant — and giving you feedback on writing," he explained in his keynote talk at the ASU+GSV Summit. "This should be a leveler," Gates continued, suggesting this would somehow "help" poorer parents and children as AI technology rapidly improves. "Because having access to a tutor is too expensive for most students — especially having that tutor adapt and remember everything that you’ve done and look across your entire body of work." All of this will be happening in the near future. "If you just took the next 18 months, the AIs will come in as a teacher’s aide and give feedback on writing," he continued. "And then they will amp up what we’re able to do in math." And as if on cue, companies started publicly peddling AI tools for the classroom to "help" teachers. |

#13 If the AI's are taught to be teachers by the current crop, will the AI's be able to read? |

#11 The AI 'presenters' will be more manageable for the indoctinators. There won't be one. There will be many choose from with different levels of difficulty and even ideology. The difference is that the students and parents will have a say in the choice. |

#9 Mathematics has changed little in decades, for example the 100 year old Calculus book would work and a Random Number Generator could generate the homework. Many other subjects would only need minimal human input once the syllabus was written ...so, yes, use an AI. Socializing the little monsters so they can turn from feral brats to proto-adults? Many teachers are unsuited to that and still "teach" in our current system. |

#8 Teaching as we grew up with disappears with Common Core replacing curriculum and electronics replacing books. And I totally agree. Here the teachers, veteran teachers, were as new to the material as the children were. I remember teaching basic Algebra to my 2nd grader, FFS didn't even have our addition tables learned. Did you see that Army PR clip bragging up the Common Core graduate who scored a 30 ASVAB? That is considered a success. A 30. |

#7 I believe today's crop of teachers no longer teach, they simply 'present' the prepackaged lessons. The AI 'presenters' will be more manageable for the indoctinators. |

#6 leaving Teachers to "teach" affirming gender-bending and Racial Identity Aggrievement Hate. I think Gates would have all that programmed into Microsoft's AI as well and that's the real danger. |
