At such a rate, by the end of the century, not Mendeleev’s forecast of a Russian billion may become a reality, but the UN’s calculation of a decrease in the population by 30 million. Contradictory and not always optimistic data were announced at a conference on demographic policy with the participation of parliamentarians and scientists. There were also suggestions on how to reverse the menacing trend.
According to the UN forecast, by the end of the 21st century, the population of Russia will decrease from the current 146 million to 117 million people. In terms of population, we will move from 9th to 20th place. At the same time, half of the entire natural population decline occurs in central Russia. The reason is that the birth rate is significantly below the level of simple reproduction.
