[RIA Novosti] The battle for Artemivsk practically destroyed the Ukrainian army, Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of the Wagner group, said on his Telegram channel.

"The battle for Bakhmut (Artyomovsk. — Ed.) Today has already practically destroyed the Ukrainian army and, unfortunately, pretty battered Wagner PMC," said Prigozhin, quoted by his press service in the corresponding telegram channel.

Artemovsk is located north of the large city of Gorlovka . It is an important transport hub for supplying the Ukrainian group of troops in the Donbass . Fierce battles have been going on outside the city for more than six months, the Ukrainian group is in operational encirclement.

As Volodymyr Zelensky stated earlier , if Ukrainian troops are defeated in Artemivsk, then Kiev will quickly face pressure from the international community, and inside the country it will be pushed to compromise with Russia.

Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, in an interview with RIA Novosti noted that Ukraine itself turned Artemovsk into a kind of symbol, which is its tragic mistake.

#6  If the Ukrainians drive to the Sea of Azov, I believe they have to push all the way to the border of Crimea w/o getting bogged down in the cites like the Russians did. That gets them 40% to their goal and keeps the front line about the same length so the Russians can't overwhelm a critical section. Good thing they will be encountering mostly mobiks.

#5  Ukraine has an entire western mechanized corps coming online this spring and well trained in western methods. It will be a powerful armored fist to punch through somewhere.

The problem is for people thinking this is gonna be a 73 Eastings type battle it won't. This isn't open desert where all you can do is go hull down. Open fields yes, but lots of tree lines to spring ambushes. Any Ukrainian advance will go in fits and starts and losses will be taken. I think they have the power to go to Melitopol if they want. The problem will be holding it and keeping pressure on when the next 300,000 moblicks come to the front in late Summer.

We'll see if western tech and training overcomes numbers.

#4  /\ Agree, trench warfare not really a
solid strategy. Ask any Frenchman.

#3  Alright! Who is up for a big armor assault across open fields into prepared defensive positions?

Looks like 100,000+ Ukrainians who want their country back. More arriving every day after completing training in the NATO countries. More and more specialized equipment have been spotted coming into Ukraine as kickoff time is getting near.

To be immobile in prepared positions it to pre-dig your own grave. Those trenches are well mapped and will be destroyed by precision artillery to JDAMs and everything in between. Harassed by drones, shot up by machine guns to cannon and cleared by armor and dismounts.

#2  I heard that Wagners only had like 5 guys left in Bakhmut and they were hiding in Babushka's basement. Should be super easy to push them back. Barely an inconvenience!

Spring is here, the ground is drying

#1  It certainly destroyed the professional (such that it is) Russian army and Wagner. Wagner has gone from 50,000 in Bakhmut to 6 or 7,000 now plus a few 1000 in Avdiivka and looks to be withdrawing what remains completely from Ukraine. Atta boy, Yevy.

Spring is here, the ground is drying and the Ukrainians are coming for you.
