#13  TW, you would be a good coder. Software languages have similar syntax nuances. I should know. I have learned over 13 different computer languages over the years.

#12  The first two paragraphs in my comment above address the poster’s complaint, Frank G., because he deserves to know that nobody censored his headline. The final two paragraphs are one of my current pet peeves, only incidentally related to this post, but apparently enough pressure has built up for me on the subject that I could no longer leave it unsaid.

#10   that's what the headline said. Then it got censored. WTF?

If I understand the technical piece correctly, the Rantburg code currently treats anything in an article headline after a double quote (“) as an operation rather than simple text, so opening and closing the article deletes all text in the headline after the double quote — no censorship involved.

At any rate, the work around is to replace all double quotes in your headlines with either a standard single quote (‘) or to manually create what looks like a double quote by typing two single quotes (‘’). I personally prefer the single quote route while Fred generally manually types two single quotes to get the double quote effect.

A separate issue, on which I have been silent until now because it clearly only annoys my editor’s eye rather than being something important: in English we pluralize both nouns and names by adding an S without an apostrophe. Using ‘s makes it a possessive, not a plural. Thus sons & daughters means more than one of each, while son’s and daughter’s means something belonging to a single son and a single daughter. Ditto, Dopey Sforza4099s would refer to more than one of him — clones, perhaps, or several unrelated people sharing the same name — while Dopey Sforza4099‘s refers to something belonging to our own anonymous commenter, possibly his temper or his amour propre.

Whew! Thank you for letting me get that off my chest!

#8  My grandfathers fought Nazis in WW2, I will die before I am forced to fight alongside Nazis in Ukraine.

Strange he had to make that statement, although it is my experience that trolls seldom fight alongside anyone.

Who censors? What is this, Facebook? Got some snowflakes with easily hurt feelings?

The issue is technical.

#5  It begs the question:

Why does he call for NATO/US ground troops? Isn't he Winning! ?

Could always match the draft number to those who have had the Ukraine flag up longest on their Avatar.

#3  If the US suddenly found itself no better off than Russia at enforcing conscription, there would be problems.

#2  By 'They', does short stuff mean all Americans should be prepared to sacrifice their children for Brandon, Elynskyyyy and Ukraine Country, or does he mean the 'They' Admiral Lavine pronoun?

#1  Ukraine needs fresh young Americans to help fight on the ground war.

"The US will have to send their Son's & Daughter's... to WAR..."

"....and they will be DYING."
