#6  Yeah, between movies like these and the surfer/drag music of the day made it a slam dunk for selecting San Diego for Boot Camp. What a fish this Michigan boy was….. got there; no bikinis, palm trees, bikinis, Little Deuce Coupes, bikinis, Dead Man Curve…..Still better than the Army

#4  The movie was Ride the Wild Surf. I watched it in my local theater when it first came out in 1964 and it was a part of my inspiration, along with The Endless Summer and the Beach Boys, to become a surfer. Maybe you could say I was easily influenced but it sure looked like surfing was a lot of fun and, when I tried it, I found out that it really was. It helped that I lived in San Diego and was able to cajole my parents and my friends were able to cajole their parents to take us to the beach. The movie also starred such luminaries of the time as Fabian, Jody Wallis, Brie Matthews, Peter Brown, Chase Colton, Augie Poole, Tab Hunter and James Mitchum. Yes, James Mitchum was Robert Mitchum's son.
