The US Africa Command confirmed that the dronezap came at the request of the Federal Government of Somalia and in support of its Army engagements against al-Shabaab.
The strike occurred in a remote area approximately near Bacadweyne, central Somalia which is approximately 460 km northwest of Mogadishu, according to the statement.
The strike killed 5 al-Shabaab fighters and the command assessed that no civilians were maimed or killed. No independent source was available to verify the report.
