Russia massing 500K soldiers, 1.8K tanks to launch offensive in 10 days: official
2023-02-10
[NYPOST] Russia is preparing to launch a powerful new offensive in 10 days’ time involving up to 500,000 conscripts and thousands of pieces of military equipment with the aim of capturing the entire Donbas region in eastern Ukraine, according to Kyiv’s military officials.

Ukrainian officials and foreign analysts have been predicting for weeks that the Kremlin was gearing up for a decisive push to seize the battlefield initiative from Kyiv’s forces in the hope of scoring a major victory in time for the Feb. 24 first anniversary of the war.

A Ukrainian military official speaking to Foreign Policy magazine on condition of anonymity said, "We expect in the next 10 days a new, huge invasion."

According to the official, Russia has already amassed an estimated 1,800 tanks, 3,950 armored vehicles, 2,700 artillery systems, 810 Soviet-era multiple rocket launch systems, 400 fighter jets and 300 helicopters.

#12  Can't believe anything that we hear from any of these people. I suppose that is the nature of war and politics in general.

#5  I believe the current Russian offensive is a variation of Brusilov’s style in WW1 - constant pressure across a broad front to forcing early commitment of Ukrainian reserves leaving reduced assets to reinforce subsequent areas of weakness

#4  And, when it doesn't happen "in 10 days," see: predictions of Al Gore and all end-of-world cult preachers.

#1  Counter opinion: 1. No Ukrianian official I’ve met with in the last 2 weeks said a “huge invasion” is looming in the time period. On the contrary, they don’t see a Russian build-up resembling what we saw a year ago. I spoke just yesterday on the record with GUR’s Skibitskyi who said this explicitly.

2. Agree. Although there’s a degree of contradiction depending on which official you look to. I think the offensive has in practice begun weeks ago, remains focused on the Donbas, and is likely to be underwhelming relative to some of the pronouncements out there.
