'Painful wait': Jeff Bezos visit to Washington Post stokes fears of layoffs
2023-01-21

[NYPOST] Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos paid a rare visit to the newspaper’s offices and took part in an editorial staff meeting on Thursday — igniting panic among the publication’s journalists that layoffs were imminent.

Bezos surprised staffers on Thursday morning when he showed up to the newspaper’s headquarters on K Street in the nation’s capital just weeks after publisher Fred Ryan announced looming layoffs during a stormy, chaotic all-hands meeting.

The Amazon founder’s presence in the newsroom prompted one staffer, who was dressed in a red shirt emblazoned with the insignia of the newspaper guild, to accost the billionaire and ask him directly why management was planning to lay people off rather than offer buyouts, according to multiple reports.

Bezos declined to address the matter, only saying that he was there to listen, according to the news site.

"I’m convinced this is going to be a protracted, painful wait for a lot of people," a Washington Post journalist told the Daily Beast.
The poor darlings. It makes the heart bleed, truly it does.

#9  Nobody likes to see the Big Boss show up, but there's a certain joy in this visit.

Besides, how do you top four years of Trump bashing?

#5  I have even less sympathy for these people than the future unemployed at Google and Microsoft. They deliberately lied about everything all the time. They brought shame upon journalism. Fuck 'em. I'd say I hope they all end up flipping burgers except that might take a job opportunity from some hard working illegal alien who, even though he or she might be here illegally, is still more worthy than WAPO hacks. It'd warm the cockles of my cold, black heart if WAPO would go out of business altogether.

So....you and your peers are aware of your ghawdaful performance?

#3  The Blue State plus Ohio “kill granny in the rest home” policy may have cut the Post daily circulation in half.

Better strategies for Bezos acquisitions that are spontaneously visited - slide a full size Almond Joy into his plastic pumpkin and hope he moves on to the next house. If he stays, challenge him to a game of chess. Use the chess delay to emergency scrabble all the remote workers in through shipping and back to their desks before the shark bump visit progresses to the tour stage.

#1  Decline is dramatic for the post. The young people don't bother looking at the news in all forms of media.
