Intervention needed now in Haiti ‐ foreign entities must work with Haitians |
2022-11-03 |
The U.S., collaborating with the Haitian community, needs to set a new policy for Haiti. And it should start now. Latest tourism ad: "Come to Haiti! Stay for the Cholera!" SOUNDING THE ALARMS In order to stave off the worst, the global community must establish an enforced humanitarian corridor to enable the effective and safe transport of medicine, water, food, sanitation supplies, and fuel to the people of Haiti. The U.S. and Canada seem to have recognized the urgency of the situation and last week sent armored vehicles to "assist [Haiti’s National Police] in their fight against criminal actors who are fomenting violence and disrupting the flow of critically-needed humanitarian assistance," according to the Department of State. While it’s a step, it will be far from sufficient without a humanitarian corridor allowing for the distribution of goods. Further, USAID activated their Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) and funded several flights of critical commodities. Should actors on the ground be able to distribute them, they will prove immensely helpful. Similarly, the activation of the UN Central Emergency Response Fund should help accelerate UN mobilization. But much more is needed. |

#7 I guess the Clinton Foundation needs money again. They raised billions for Haiti last time, but never spent any in-country. |

#3 Why? Haiti has always been a shit-show and will always be a shit-show. They are not even close to important to the US. Unless you are a Clinton laundering money through it. |

#2 Sorry we read the book and saw the movie. Haitian solutions for Haitian problems as I always say. I think we'll sit this one out. Beso, I could not agree with you more. We have been trying to stand them up for more than a century now; and enough is enough. Let the UN take them, or somebody else - but not us, not one dime, not one life. Mike |

#1 Working as a USAID Foreign Service Officer (FSO) under 'Clinton Foundation' style money laundering, Non-For-Profit cover for action. Er huh...don't forget the 'key to the benefit program' Jed. Sorry we read the book and saw the movie. Haitian solutions for Haitian problems as I always say. I think we'll sit this one out. |
