will vote to elect 14 new members on Tuesday.

According to a General Assembly resolution, the Human Rights Council is composed of 47 Member States, each of which is elected directly and individually by a vast bulk of the General Assembly’s members using a secret ballot.

The membership of Human Rights Council is determined based on geographical distribution, with 13 seats allocated to the Asia-Pacific region.

Of these 13 seats, there are currently 4 seats vacant for the elections, in which Afghanistan along with other Asian countries such as Kyrgyzstan, Bangladesh, Republic of Korea, Maldives and Vietnam are candidates.

According to the Human Rights Council, each of the newly elected members will serve for a period of three years, starting from January 2023.
