| #2 I had a long conversation about this sort of thing back in the day with a lawyer friend who specialized in same-sex marriage issues. Basically, the process of having legalized polyamory of any kind is too complex for the American legal system to get its head around. Think about issues of inheritance or child custody to name but a few. You can change a few words and have same sex marriage under the existing legal framework. But to have legalized "throuples," one man with three wives, or any other combination requires massive retooling of the entire code. |
