As it becomes clear that Russia is losing its war of imperial conquest in Ukraine, Kremlin propagandists are pushing a completely groundless narrative accusing the West of seeking to conquer and enslave Russia
2022-10-05
[Twitter] Witness a steady diet of upside-down propaganda fed to the Russians: head of RT claims the West is supposedly trying to "colonize & enslave" Russia and other countries. Without a hint of awareness, she unwittingly describes what Russia is doing to Ukraine and why Ukraine resists.
The Russians, including trolls here, don't have much of a playbook but they are going to push their limited repertoire to the hilt.

#51  “According to CNN which cited people familiar with the situation, the White House used all available resources to lobby the oil cartel ahead of their Vienna meeting, and is now left "having a spasm and panicking."

A defeated Biden said he is "concerned" with OPEC's decision, going as far as to call the move "a hostile act" and a "total disaster."

Yeah, horses for courses. Light weight, wide tracks, and a shooty thing. Not your first choice for a tank battle, but it would make a nifty assault gun and give your infantry something to hide behind as they advance across open fields.

#48  All possibly true. It won’t be long before we’ll be able to look back and see what actually happened instead of all the predictions.

At which point those of our new visitors who choose to stay on will no doubt return to using one nym apiece per day... instead of some of them looking like a crowd. In the meantime, watching what everyone has to say — and how they say it — has been truly educational.

#46  “The OPEC coalition’s move could also add to inflationary pressures in the United States and Europe, as well as undercut the effort to bolster Ukraine as it defends itself against the Russian invasion. Russia relies on gas and oil sales for a large portion of its budget and had pushed for the production cut, which will enable Moscow to sell oil for higher prices on the global market, generating more revenue for its war and troop mobilization.
Oil prices jumped this week in anticipation of Wednesday’s news. They are expected to increase further now, probably to over $100 per barrel.

It will take 2 months or more to train and equip a decent size force, let alone 300,000 when the Russians are already scraping the bottom of the barrel with T-62s. I read even a T-55 was captured. Guessing it as a DNR/LNR relic.

Today: 0.016308 USD; Average: 0.016062 USD since spring of 2022. 0.013568 USD in fall 2021, so they've made up around 20% since last fall to today (remember that in 2019 they were around 0.0155 USD for most of the year, so that's only about a 5% delta in 3 years).

As a reference, Canadian Dollar has gone down 11% against the USD and the Euro has dropped 13% during the same fall 2021 to the present.

Of course we should drill and produce more and lower the world oil price with more US supply.

We should also stop this bullshit about pretending we can impose a “price cap” on a multi-trillion dollar global market — and maybe also try to avoid a nuclear war over a country where we don’t have any vital interests at stake.

"they think the U.S. did it."
The last few decades the world thought Mossad did it, whatever it was. That doesn't make them correct.

“a lot of the world doesn't like this NATO expansion, which they interpret as at the core of this."
Ukraine isn't part of NATO and they were invaded anyway. Sweden and Finland now want to join NATO because of the war. Seems the only folks against NATO expansion are in Russia and China and I don't particularly care what they think.

#18  New York Slimes, denazifying Ukraine all by its lonesome:

Mar 15 2019:

On his flak jacket was a symbol commonly used by the Azov Battalion, a Ukrainian neo-Nazi paramilitary organization.

Feb 11 2020:

Defenders of the Ukrainian Azov Battalion, which the F.B.I. calls “a paramilitary unit” notorious for its “association with neo-Nazi ideology,” accuse us of being part of a Kremlin campaign to “demonize” the group.

Mar 17 2022 — here they are, de-Nazified by the Slimes, who suddenly soften their language and call them a “far-right” “military unit”:

Facebook last week said it was making an exception to its anti-extremism policies to allow praise for Ukraine’s far-right Azov Battalion military unit, “strictly in the context of defending Ukraine, or in their role as part of the Ukraine National Guard.”

Apr 29 2022: now denazification is complete: what used to be Nazis are now just “a unit in the military,” no different from your ordinary workaday warrior:

These scenes are from videos shared online in recent days by the Azov regiment, a unit in the Ukrainian military, which says they were taken in the mazelike bunkers beneath the sprawling Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol, Ukraine.

Let’s review — As The Narrative Turns, brought to you by the New York Slimes:

2015-Feb. 2022: "a Ukrainian neo-Nazi paramilitary organization" which even the FBI said is notorious for its “association with neo-Nazi ideology”

March 2022: Nazi "far right"

Today: Nazi "far right" a "unit in the Ukrainian military"

"Buried alive": the police told about the torture chamber that the occupiers arranged in the village of Pisky-Radkivski in the Kharkiv region
Thus, after the liberation of the village of Pisky-Radkivski, local residents informed the police that prisoners were being held in the basement of one of the houses: local residents, anti-terrorist forces, and prisoners from the armed forces.

" Neighbors constantly heard screams from there [...] At this moment, the police know for sure about torture - burying alive in the ground and using a gas mask with a smoldering rag, " Bolvinov said.

He said that the torture chamber also found a dildo, a box of broken dentures [actually a box of extracted gold teeth and rings from the tortured], wires with ropes and a letter with an interview of one of the men who had been there.

#9  If you’ve lost Jeffrey Sachs, you’ve lost the globalist crowd. Nobody believes Biden’s bullshit anymore. Now even their allies are speaking out against the madness of dragging us toward nuclear war with Russia.

Jeffrey Sachs goes on to speak inconvenient truths to the Bloomberg newshound:

JEFFREY SACHS: "The European economy is getting hammered by the sudden cutoff of energy. And now to make it definitive, the destruction of the Nord Stream Pipeline (which I would bet was a U.S. action, perhaps U.S. and Poland). That is speculation."

I know it runs counter to our narrative, you're not allowed to say these things in the West, but the fact of the matter is all over the world when I talk to people, they think the U.S. did it. Even reporters on our papers that are involved tell me 'of course' [the U.S. did it], but it doesn't show up in our media."

“I was attacked in The Atlantic for being on the side of peace. And I confess, I'm on the side of peace. I'm very worried we are on the path of escalation to nuclear war, nothing less than that.

“Russia feels that this war is at the core of its security interests. The United States insists it will do anything to support Ukraine's defeat of Russia. Russia views this as a proxy war with the United States. Whatever one thinks about this, this is the path of extraordinary, dangerous escalation.

A lot of the world is watching these events in horror, and a lot of the world doesn't like this NATO expansion, which they interpret as at the core of this. They want to see a compromise between the U.S. and Russia.

“In vote after vote at the United Nations, basically, it has been the Western countries that have been voting for sanctions and denunciations and other actions. Whereas most of the world, certainly most of the world counted by population, is on the sidelines. They view this as a horrible clash between Russia and the U.S. They don't see this, as we do in the media, as an unprovoked attack by Russia on Ukraine.

Anyone in the U.S. thinks, "well, what else is it?" But that is because of the way our media has been reporting this. This conflict goes back a long time, it didn't start on February 24, 2022. In fact, the war itself started in 2014, not 2022. and even that had antecedents.

“Most of the world doesn't see it the way we describe it. Most of the world is just terrified right now, frankly.

It is unbelievable to be hearing on one side that they will use nuclear weapons if they have to, while the other side says, "You can't frighten us."

#8  The bullshit is so thick that even reliable globalists like the rockstar economist Jeffrey Sachs are calling out the Biden people’s absurd lies.

Jeffrey Sachs: Rest Of The World Thinks The U.S. Probably Sabotaged The Nord Stream Pipeline, But It Doesn't Show Up In Our Media
Tim Hains
Realclearpolitics.com
October 3, 2022

Columbia University economist Jeffrey Sachs on Monday suggested that the U.S. and Poland are probably behind the destruction of the Nord Stream pipeline.

"A lot of the world is watching these events in horror," Sachs said. "They view this as a horrible clash between Russia and the U.S. They don't see this, as we do in the media, as an unprovoked attack by Russia on Ukraine."

"Most of the world doesn't see it the way we describe it. Most of the world is just terrified right now, frankly," he added.

#7  For the ignorant: soaring oil prices — as we will now see, as soon as OPEC announces today they will slash production by 1 million barrels (despite Biden’s ass-licking of the Saudi king) — soaring oil price will eventually lead to a declining dollar and an increase in the value of the ruble, the dinar and all the other currencies of the oil rich states.
