#7 1. some of Bays, e.g. Tampa Bay are funnels 2. water is shallow for 40 miles west of Florida which allows strong storm surge 3. water off coast is really warm providing latent heat for tropical storms |

#4 I can't wait for the accusations of "price gauging" at filling stations and airlines. I forget which storm it was some years ago, but remember when THE GOVERNMENT told people to evacuate; so, of course they got on planes and drove their vehicles away only to have the storm be a veritable nothing burger. Faulty government proclamations cost people thousands upon thousands of dollars--and for what? Surely that government agency continues to be funded. |

#3 That's also my guess Besoeker! Actually, it's mainly due to the fact that Florida west coast is mostly shallow water. |
