Matthew Cole's 'Code over Country'
2022-09-08
[GoogleBooks] Matthew Cole - "Code over Country," pages 226-227:

A month after American Sniper was published and shortly after Bissonnette signed the contract for his book on the Bin Laden raid, an eighty-five-year-old retired veteran stood up from row of chairs in a Washington D.C. ballroom to address Adm. McRaven. In the nine months since the mission in Abbottabad, McRaven had earned a fourth star and a promotion. He was now commander of the Special Operations Command. McRaven was the keynote speak for an annual special operations conference, and after his remarks, the audience asked questions. The retired veteran who rose was no former grunt. He was retired Lt. Gen. James Vaught and had served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. More importantly, he's been the overall commanding general for the failed rescue attempt at Desert One in 1980. "You've been splashing all of [your SEAL Team 6 operations] all over the media. and I flat don't understand that," the retired general said. "[If] you keep publishing how you do this, the other guy's going to be there ready for you, and you're going to fly in and he's going to shoot down every damned helicopter and kill every one of your SEALs," Vaught warned Adm. McRaven, "Mark my words, get the hell out of the media."
Emphasis in the last para added.
