Nearly 2,000 NYPD cops quitting before getting full pensions |
2022-08-08 |
[NYPOST] The NYPD is still hemorrhaging cops. Ever-growing exodus figures show 2,465 coppers have filed to leave the department this year — 42% more than the 1,731 who exited at the same time last year, according to the latest pension fund stats obtained by The Post. More disturbing is the fact that the number of cops hanging up their holsters early — before reaching 20 years for a full pension — has skyrocketed 71% this year from the year before (1,098 from 641). NYPD Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch said the so-called "voluntary quits" are driving the "stampede" — and not a big academy class that graduated in 2022, as claimed last month by Chief of Department Kenneth Corey. "We have had retirement waves caused by large academy classes before — they were nothing like this," said Lynch. "This exodus is the result of cops in the prime of their careers deciding they have had enough. ... The NYPD should stop trying to explain this staffing crisis away. Admit there’s a problem and help us fix it," he said. |

#4 Bailing before your pension activated but after your are vested in the system usually means the difference between immediate and some later deferred date. This is a HUGE decision reflecting absolute inability to do the job any longer and fears of safety or civil/criminal prosecution risk for doing the job correctly. Those that remain will increasingly either be substandard or adopt the SFPD enforcement standard of in patrol-unit dining and report writing. This is the death sentence for NYC economically, as businesses and industry will now see sunk cost losses as acceptable alternatives to remaining where you cannot keep a workforce on-site. |

#2 One of the big attractions of a job with the city is that if you can hang in long enough, you get a nice pension. The fact that cops are bailing early is significant. |

#1 The NYC city council’s Resolution requiring NYPD be re-trained to the NEW Community Policing Mission and Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order 203 covering the LIBERAL Policing idea called "Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative Plan". THEN ADD in a new NYPD Police Commissioner picked to check off a lot of Political Agenda & PR items; like Liberal-minded, Racial & gender issues Trying to keep Law & Order, while following this Politically Correct agenda and the "Let them walk in signature bail" Soros DA's is bad enough. But now toss in the mix having to deal with "Looney Tunes" empowered radical community leaders. It has made the role of a NYPD officer nearly impossible. unsafe and a joke. |
