Erdogan specified his targets in the two northern Syrian cities of Manbij and Tel Rifaat. On July 1, Erdogan said that Ankara’s new military operation in northern Syria could begin at any moment. The Russian forces also established a stationing post in al-Hussan village, northeast of Manbij, near the front lines in al-Hoshariya village. The SDF liberated Manbij from ISIS rule in 2016, and the city is now under the control of the SDF-aligned Manbij Military Council (MMC). Turkish Drone Hits Near Government’s Military Post In Aleppo Countryside [NPASyria] On Monday morning, a Turkish drone attacked the town of Tel Rifaat in the northern countryside of Aleppo Governorate, without reports on casualties. The Turkish drone targeted the railway near a post of the Military Security Branch of the Syrian government forces, a military source told North Press. The town of Tel Rifaat, which is 35 km to the north of the city of Aleppo, has been a shelter for Afrin displaced people since 2018 following the Turkish invasion of Afrin and its countryside which resulted in the displacement of about 300,000 of the original inhabitants. Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has recently announced plans to carry out another major military cross-border incursion into northern Syria. Erdogan specified his targets in the two northern Syrian cities of Manbij and Tel Rifaat. On July 1, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Ankara’s new military operation in northern Syria could begin at any moment. “I always say that we can start [the incursion] at any moment at night. We should not worry and rush, especially since we are working in the area,” Erdogan told reporters after returning from the NATO summit in Madrid. Earlier in July, a Turkish drone attacked a military post of the government forces in Tel Rifaat, causing the injury of two soldiers, as well as material damage. Following the attack, a Russian patrol and officers of the government forces inspected the area targeted by the Turkish drone. Eyewitnesses told North Press that the Russian patrol that inspected the targeted area consisted of armored vehicles and some soldiers. |
