#13  There’s no pleasure like linguistics pleasure....

(Yes, yes, it does involve tongues. You can stop snickering now — you aren’t fooling anyone.)

#12  Ansar Steve al Jama'at would be more accurate. Jama'at is group, or league.

Insert an ullah into anything and it belongs to Allan. Like Habibullah, where Habib means friend so... friend of Allan.

See? Jihadi taxonomy is easy.

#10  There are lots of Ansarullah or Ansarul groups around the world. Some of them, I believe, are connected, though I’ve no idea which ones.

#8  Ansar just means 'helper', 'servant' or more specifically 'helper in a cause'. It goes back to mohamed's time when descendants of the Gawd cursed Amalekites helped mohammed to establish his... whatever this is.

Personally I think they shoulda gone with Alhazred.

Today, in the sasquatch world, an ansaar usually denotes a group that wants to 'serve the cause', help the moslem eschaton.

#7  Ok — added a key word search of the Rantburg archives. Nothing about the gentleman in question under either name with those spellings, but one of the Jamaat Ansarullah articles contained this comment, distilled from a variety of sources at the time:

Jamaat Ansarullah — as opposed to all the other groups that go by Ansarullah, including the Houthis in Yemen — is the Tajikistani branch of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU), which fights alongside the Taliban in Jawzjan and Faryab provinces.

I wish I had a better memory, but this artificial aid Fred crafted is very helpful once I remember to use it. Thank you, Fred!

#1  He's no Mahdi of anything. Formed in 2009 by some ex-Tajik army officers, the Jama'at Ansarullah was a 200 strong Tajik militant group that supplemented Taliban activities in the Badakshan. It came to be led by one Mohammad Sharifov, a Tajik thug of mixed race who rose through the ranks simply because his superiors fled the fighting faster'n a scalded cat. Who knows, some of these tajiks may just be living in America and the K right now, but that's another story.

This asshole.

He later named himself Mahdi Arsalon.

After the US-Taliban deal of 2019, and the pull out, all sasquatches who had fought for the taliban council wanted in on the giant graft machine to come. Just like they'd been promised. But there's a reason they were never invited to the Doha rounds.

The emirate's what they had all fought for. They were promised a federal type setup like Pakistain; with fiefdoms federal autonomy, local provincial budgets fueled by unending 'tranches' of Ameican taxpayer money from Biden, the chance to parlay directly with and even occasionally extort the Chinese investing there, the tourism, the mining, oh my.

But the new emirate put paid to all that, because the deal with the US necessitated that. This was a DJT achievement mind you, let the world never forget that. So, the taliban is fast cutting ties with the AQ supported groups that cheered and did victory dances for the taliban. It has even censured and recognized all central asian sasquatch groups like the uzbek Katibat Imam al Bukhari, Katibat Tawhid wal Jihad, Islamic Jihad Union, the tajik Jamaat Ansarullah and the Turkestan Uyghur Fighters Islamic Party as 'extremists'. After all, China is a customer and investor now. They need to posture before the world bank, the UN, and the ... HoR, as a legitimate country and a decent government with modernist values and what have you. Soon, they might even allow some hand picked wimmin to strut before the cameras as 'empowered' moslem gals. Mullahs will not be pleased. Those mullahs who do not understand how the world works. And they'll be silenced.

So basically, the friends of yesterday are now liabilities. And when they realize they're being treated as liabilities, they get mad. Our job, yours and mine is to fan such fires, until they all go completely Dawn of the Dead on each other.
