LA board of supervisors votes unanimously to give BACK prime beachfront land worth hundreds of millions of dollars to black family - almost a hundred years after it was seized by the state to build public park
2022-06-29
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • The land was bought by Charles and Willa Bruce in 1912 who turned it into a resort for Black families known as 'Bruce's Beach'

  • It was taken from the family by the local government in a forced transaction that officials in 2022 have conceded was motivated by racism

  • In Tuesday's vote, the county voted 5-0 n favor of returning the land to the descendants of the Bruce family

  • The county will lease the land from the family for two years at a cost of $413,000 and have an option to purchase for $20 million

  • It's not clear what the Bruce family intends to do with the land

#8  DooDahMan, I got the impression it was the misuse of eminant domain that started the problem. Happy for the family, but also doubt its completely on the up-and-up.

#7  I hope that family does NOTHING with the land but let it sit there while developers rend their clothing, wail, and gnash their teeth.

The question is so obvious I'm embarrassed to ask: Where's the graft in that?

While I agree that the Bruce Family deserves to be fully compensated.

But one has to ask.
Is this also some back door round-about way of filling some Developers / Political pockets in 3 years?

#1  ...A little bit of justice. I hope that family does NOTHING with the land but let it sit there while developers rend their clothing, wail, and gnash their teeth.
