Russia will soon exhaust its combat capabilities, Western assessments predict
2022-06-26
[WAPO via MSN] The Russian military will soon exhaust its combat capabilities and be forced to bring its offensive in Ukraine's eastern Donbas region to a grinding halt, according to Western intelligence predictions and military experts.

"There will come a time when the tiny advances Russia is making become unsustainable in light of the costs and they will need a significant pause to regenerate capability," said a senior Western official, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive issue.

The assessments come despite continued Russian advances against outgunned Ukrainian forces, including the capture on Friday of the city of Severodonetsk, the biggest urban center taken by Russia in the east since launching the latest Donbas offensive nearly three months ago.

The Russians are now closing in on the adjacent city of Lysychansk, on the opposite bank of the Donets River. The town's capture would give Russia almost complete control of the Luhansk oblast, one of two oblasts, or provinces, that make up the Donbas region. Control of Donbas is the publicly declared goal of Russia's "special military operation," although the multifront invasion launched in February made it clear that Moscow's original ambitions were far broader.

#23  If zombie Patton were a possibility, Aleksandr Dugin would have already summoned his shade from the underworld so he could lead the 150th Motorized Rifle Division.

#22  Patton had IVORY handles on his gun. Be careful or zombie Patton will pimp slap you.

#21  WW1 French general Ferdinand Foch was weird about food too. Every noteworthy general has a "thing" that sticks in people's minds. Patton had his pearl handled revolver, Zhukov had his medals, Grant his whisky.

...I'm betting the Russians would kill for a Foch, Patton, Zhukov, or Grant right about now!

#18  For some reason he has ordered all his Ukrainian prisoners be brought before him frozen in carbonite.

#17  Will a second sacking of Berlin ensue? Will Scholz end up dangling from the nearest lamp post? Or re-assigned to become the governor of the Tuvan Autonomous Oblast, in light of his invaluable contributions to the Russian war effort? We should find out in the months and years ahead. Grandiose pronouncements about the end of history have proved sadly premature.

#16  I've always admired Russian uniforms. They really accentuate masculinity.

#15  Putin is focused. This is a done deal. No compromise. Sacking several generals or whatever needs to be done he will do. Ukraine is Russia. Attrition is the plan now. Air and artillery first then use troops to attack. Clear warning to any country apposing his efforts. His red line means something.

His red line is like every conqueror's red line. He will advance until his forces can no longer do so. Where that point turns out to be depends on how much equipment and ammo the West supplies to the Ukrainians. At the moment, the trickle of aid is sufficient only for Ukraine to lose, despite the torrent of road apples coming from Washington and the European capitals. We shall likely see that red line extending all the way to the Atlantic, and beyond, depending on how hollow Europe's military forces are, relative to their stated capabilities.

#14  We're winning this proxy war just like Afghanastan and Vietnam?

#13  Despite the camo it will be hard to hide this guy’s movements. They will just look for a command car outfitted with an electric WalMart scooter. Also an engineering battalion hauling latrine buttresses would be another giveaway.
With the sorry state of the Russian forces I’m sure we won’t be asked to provide further funding. Another hundred flintlocks from Moldova and score of blunderbusses from Liechtenstein ought to do the trick.

#12  Didn't Lincoln say he'd like to send a case of whatever Grant was drinking to all of his generals?

#11  Comical the information provide on this general. Obese, age, 5 meals a day and a liter of Vodka after each meal. Two body armor suits. Scraping the bottom of the barrel. Might as well mentioned gun sex and beastly tendencies. OH, but that would have been OK, normal Democrat behavior.

#7  Zelensky will be hopping on a US military cargo flight soon. Some say the destination will be his pad in Miami, others say his villa in Tel Aviv.

I'm betting on Montecito near Oprah and Meghan & Harry. The $50 million Netflix contract beckons.

#6  The truth is that this is one of the worst foreign policy disasters ever suffered by the US.

You flatter yourself. It is a monumental cock up but, as far as the American people are concerned, hardly the worst that Joe Biden can do.

#5  Such pathetic, obvious lies from one of the biggest liars throughout this sorry spectacle. WaPo, the Times and the Brit tabloids have parroted Pentagon and MoD bullshit nonstop.

The truth is that this is one of the worst foreign policy disasters ever suffered by the US. Ukraine and the US have succeeded only in getting Ukraine destroyed. Before the war, Russia controlled only Crimea. The Minsk II agreement that Zelensky ripped up (on orders from Biden's neocon fools) would have ensured Ukraine's survival with control of 100% of its productive territory.

Thanks to that foolish decision and Biden's insane encouragement, the little clown has caused his country to lose almost 90% of its productive territory and close to a quarter of its geographic territory.

This is a spectacular humiliation for Biden and his foreign-policy idiots. Watch how they try desperately to spin it otherwise.
