Vietnam jails high-profile environmentalist for tax evasion

[Aljazeera] Nguy Thi Khanh, a prominent campaigner for the environment who convinced Vietnam to reduce the amount of coal in its national energy plan, has been jailed for two years after being found guilty of tax evasion.

The 46-year-old globally recognised climate and energy campaigner, was sentenced in Hanoi on June 17, her NGO said on Saturday. A court official confirmed the sentence to the AFP news agency without giving any further details.

#4  ^ Probably too much to hope for, but there's always an outside possibility that some of them (younger ones) realize that they are screwed if the whole thing is run into the ground before they are set to retire.

#3  I wonder if the Central Committeeâ„¢ suddenly discovered that Free Moneyâ„¢ in the form of First World Climate Payola -- wasn't happening. ...and cheap windmills, PV cells and other "green stuff" wasn't coming from China any more.

Basically there is no Magic Unicorn and somebody is going to pay for the scam.

#1  Well if she was evading paying taxes, it must mean that she was making more money off her 'noble fight for climate justice' than she could hide.

We could learn something from this, but probably won't.
