The IRS backlog saga...
2022-05-22
[FoxNews] An audit of the Internal Revenue Service found staffers destroyed 30 million taxpayer documents, as they faced a massive backlog.
Always keep a copy of everything you send them as well as post office receipts, just in case.
However, the tax collection agency says no taxpayers were adversely affected by the destruction.
Clearly the IRS trusts that most taxpayers are pretty honest.
The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration made three recommendations for the IRS to improve its processing of paper tax forms and promote more e-filing. However, the IRS disagreed with two of the recommendations.

"This audit was initiated because the IRS’s continued inability to process backlogs of paper-filed tax returns contributed to management’s decision to destroy an estimated 30 million paper-filed information return documents in March 2021," says the TIGTA report signed by Michael E. McKenney, the deputy inspector general for audit. "The IRS uses these documents to conduct post-processing compliance matches to identify taxpayers who do not accurately report their income."

The IRS issued a public statement last week regarding the inspector general report first released on May 4.

"There were no negative taxpayer consequences as a result of this action," the IRS statement says. "Taxpayers or payers have not been and will not be subject to penalties resulting from this action."

The destroyed tax documents included W-2 forms and 1099 forms, according to the inspector general. The IRS responded to the inspector general with inaccurate responses, according to the report.

#13  My belief is that only the dregs of the Obama crowd is participating in the third term. Competent Obamites are out making big money off their connections in the private sector. You would think that the Department of Theft would be the highest priority. I am convinced that Lean Manufacturing principles could take care of this issue. I am also convinced that no Lean expert would be interested in the project. IRS work is kind of like perfecting a jock itch remedy; nobody wants to be involved in the disgusting nature of improving this particular process.

Just now starting to return to office work, so consider the backlog as a testament to semi-retirement as a productivity standard.

Why is the IRS behind?
Since they don't seem to bother investigate anything but GOP / Right Wing groups.

#7  I'd imagine the only two ways to get audited is to be obviously breaking the law or to be a designated Enemy of the Stateâ„¢.

#6  Smaller workforces and increased reliance on computerized filing have failed to reduce the IRS backlog. 80,000 new employees urgently needed.

#5   management’s decision to destroy an estimated 30 million paper-filed information return documents

Wonder how many of those were upper 10 percenters? from Blue States?

#4  Add IRS to the soup. All agencies have huge labor shortage. I wounder if and when they farm this work out to China. Even protest groups are showing the same problem. People don't want to work. Street people the new normal. No family, no belonging, and no basic social abilities.

#2  You owe them money, firm pay date is established with late fines and penalties.

They owe you money, no such rules apply.
