#4  Yes, we've lost our infant 'field craft'.

#3  What happened to 'wet nurses' or making your own formula, or pumping it up in advance?

Guess how people fed babies before Gerbers in a jar. Yes, the mom's chewed it up in their own mouths, carefully spit into a tiny spoon, or onto their finger, and fed it to the infants.

#2  What ever happened to breast feeding? I know it's not an option for Mayor Pete and other adoptive parents but it would help alleviate the crisis.

#1  Domestic baby formula production is one of the most regulated and subsidized products in America, distorting the market so grotesquely that it has centralized around just a few companies, essentially an oligopoly. This crony capitalist market concentration left the supply vulnerable when Abbott, one of the manufacturers, had to issue a recall due to a potential contamination issue. (Which the Food and Drug Administration was warned about months in advance and did nothing about).

Didn't realize it was so constrained. Almost like it is a prescription drug.
