Walmart Is Shipping Baby Formula from Wyoming to New Jersey to Fill Demand
2022-05-16
[Breitbart] A Walmart customer service representative confirmed to this Breitbart News reporter that an order of Enfamil brand infant formula was shipped out of Cheyenne, Wyoming, to North Bergen, New Jersey, “due to the unavailability of the item at the nearest fulfillment center in your area.”

Cheyenne is 1,738 miles from North Bergen. Walmart operates a “supercenter” storefront in North Bergen.

The Enfamil purchase, made on May 8 and arriving on May 12, was made for the purpose of feeding an eight-month-old infant, not in the interest of journalism.

The Enfamil powder is already a substitution for the Similac brand powdered formula typically consumed.

Walmart’s media relations wing did not respond to multiple requests for clarification as to the reasons behind the baby formula order requiring a cross-country shipment, how common such a move is for online orders, and confirmation that the order means the closest available Enfamil for parents in New Jersey is in Wyoming. A customer service representative did offer an explanation regarding the order.

“The reason why it was sent in from a different location is due to the unavailability of the item,” the representative said. “Due to the unavailability of the item in the nearest fulfillment center in your area, we have to request the item from other fulfillment center. [sic]”

The FDA added in the press release that “other infant formula manufacturers are meeting or exceeding capacity levels to meet current demand. Notably, more infant formula was purchased in the month of April than in the month prior to the recall.”
“Your order was unavailable because the item is currently out of stock due to its popularity,” the representative responded when asked if it was fair to conclude that the shipment details meant that the closest Walmart fulfillment center carrying Enfamil from New Jersey is in Wyoming.

At press time, the Walmart website shows none of the five Walmart “supercenters” within a ten-mile radius its North Bergen store are carrying the product.

The formula purchase’s transcontinental journey reflects the gravity of the growing crisis surrounding acute shortages families are currently facing of nearly every widely available brand of baby formula. As of last week, over 40 percent of baby formula stock is out on a national level.

While supply chain disruptions partially caused by lockdowns in response to the Chinese coronavirus pandemic had already strained national baby formula supplies, the shortages became more severe in light of the federal government shutting down one of the largest formula manufacturing plants in the country.

Several Similac lines and other brands produced by Abbott Labs have all but disappeared off of store shelves nationwide after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) shut down Abbott’s Michigan processing facility in late March in response to an alleged bacterial outbreak; Abbott had issued a voluntary recall of some of the products affected in February. Abbott is America’s largest baby formula producer.

Mounting public concern regarding baby formula shortages led the FDA to announce on Wednesday that it would finally cede to Abbott’s request to begin to use the plant to make formula again, but only on a “case-by-case” basis.

“We recognize that many consumers have been unable to access infant formula and critical medical foods they are accustomed to using and are frustrated by their inability to do so,” FDA Commissioner Robert Califf said in a public statement on Tuesday. “We are doing everything in our power to ensure there is adequate product available where and when they need it.”

The FDA added in the press release that “other infant formula manufacturers are meeting or exceeding capacity levels to meet current demand. Notably, more infant formula was purchased in the month of April than in the month prior to the recall.”
Whew! Not a permanent problem, then.

#12  One thing I have noticed about these shortages, is they always seem to be happening around the major blue cities. We have had some holes in the shelf stocks in Colorado, but nothing compared to Covid panic and what I am seeing elsewhere.

Truckers not shipping to these areas, or to many working people moved out of the blue areas to fulfill demand?

#11  from a Powerline link -

At the White House press conference today, the Press Secretary mistakenly said that our formulas were tainted and killed two infants. The deaths of these infants are a tragedy. 🧵 [1/11]

The facts, however, are critical: A comprehensive investigation by Abbott, FDA and CDC found no evidence that our formulas caused infant illnesses. Specifically… [2/11]

CDC concluded its investigation with no findings of a link between our formulas and infant illnesses.

We conduct microbiological testing on products prior to distribution and no Abbott formula distributed to consumers tested positive for Cronobacter or Salmonella. [3/11]

All retained product tested by Abbott and the FDA during the inspection of the facility came back negative for Cronobacter and/or Salmonella. No Salmonella was found at the Sturgis facility. [4/11]

The Cronobacter sakazakii that was found in environmental testing during the investigation was in non-product contact areas of the facility and has not been linked to any known infant illness. [5/11]

Genetic sequencing on the two available samples from ill infants did not match strains of Cronobacter in our plant. Samples from ill infants did not match each other, meaning there was no connection between the two cases. [6/11]

In all four cases, the state, FDA, and/or CDC tested samples of the Abbott formula that was used by the child. In all four cases, all unopened containers tested negative. [7/11]

Open containers from the homes of the infants were also tested in three of the four cases; two of the three tested negative. The one positive was from an open container from the home of the infant, and it tested positive for two different strains of Cronobacter sakazakii… [8/11]

…one of which matched the strain that caused the infant’s infection, and the other matched a strain found on a bottle of distilled water in the home used to mix the formula. Again, neither strain matched strains found in our plant. [9/11]

The infants consumed four different types of our formula made over the course of nearly a year and the illnesses took place over several months in three different states. [10/11]

The formula from this plant did not cause these infant illnesses. [11/11]

* but govt shut down production. Meanwhile the govt continues to push vaccinations that have been linked to deaths.

We had plenty of baby formula in the Wally World stores around our area in GA.

But the Media generated Panic has been affective.
