Ford's F-150 Lightning Electric Pickup Truck Has Finally Arrived |
2022-04-17 |
[ZERO] The Ford F-150 Lightning pickup is officially coming to compete with Tesla. We have been tracking interest in Ford's flagship electric pickup projects and have watched reservations and consumer interest pick up over the last year. Now, it looks the pickup is finally ready to hit the road - and Elon Musk's Cybertruck, its most obvious competition, is still nowhere to be found. Ford executives have said the new pickup is going to be worth the wait. Linda Zhang, chief engineer on the project, told Bloomberg: "We were dealing with a ton of skepticism internally. It couldn’t just be a battery on wheels. We wanted it to be a real American truck that does work." This meant Ford had to create features that "hand't been invented yet," Zhang said. The truck's "frunk", for example, can hold 400 pounds of cargo and is comprised of 14 cubic feet of space. In selling an electric pickup, Ford is beginning to convert its extremely popular F-Series, which sells about 900,000 trucks a year, to electric. |

#10 I bought an F-150 in 2004. Still have it. No problems, love it. So much so I bought a F-150 Raptor in 2018. I love it too but I wouldn’t buy another Raptor. It’s sucks for towing vs. other models. 5000 lbs towing or 8k with weight distribution hitch. I can’t help but wonder how far you would get towing a 10k trailer with this electric truck. Hills and heavy loads eat up batteries like crazy. A normal drive from San Diego to say Dallas or Seattle could be done in 2 days (9-10 hour drive days). I bet it would take 2 weeks for this electric truck to do it with a trailer. |

#9 This has nothing to do with efficiency, economy or state-of-the-art. It is about a truck... |

#8 #3 -The hybrid makes sense. I've got a '20 Ecoboost Crew cab as the hybrids weren't available. Twin turbos w/ the 10 speed tranny make it every bit as fast as my old 5.4L V8 |

#7 I'm still in "why did I even want this?" mode... |

#6 /\ Excellent advice. My biggest personal challenge was ending the conflict over 'wants and needs.' Needs eventually saved the day, but it was an epic struggle. |

#5 Absolute best retirement advice I have to offer: Make sure you have a reliable vehicle and good insurance. |

#3 Last Sept. I bought an F-150 Powerboost. This is a hybrid that will recharge it's own batteries with a 3.5L twin turbo. Outrageously fast and full of torque. The batteries boost the MPG to 24 with an effective range greater than 600 miles if you fill up the 30 gal tank. Love the darn ting.... |

#2 ^ Let's just say that thanks to it's load capacity, the electric F-150 is capable of carrying enough batteries to go around the block twice. And if you recharge it overnight while you sleep, does it really matter how long it takes? |

#1 Range, and how long to recharge, please? |
