John Kerry urges Putin to not let Ukraine invasion distract from combating climate change
2022-02-25 | |
Mr. Kerry, a former secretary of state, told BBC News earlier this week that it was important for Russian President Vladimir Putin and other global leaders to remain committed to lowering greenhouse gas emissions. "I hope diplomacy will win ... but equally importantly, you’re going to lose people’s focus, you’re going to lose, certainly big country attention," Mr. Kerry said. "I think hopefully, President Putin would realize that in the northern part of his country, they used to live on 66% of ... frozen land. Now it’s thawing and his infrastructure is at risk, and the people of Russia are at risk." "I hope President Putin will help us to stay on track with respect to what we need to do for the climate," Mr. Kerry added The comments were made on the same day that Russia recognized two breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine as independent states. As part of the maneuver, Mr. Putin sent in Russian troops on a "peacekeeping" mission, despite warnings from the U.S. and its NATO allies. Military analysts say the decision to recognize the breakaway areas of Donetsk and Luhansk, which have been controlled by Russia-backed separatists since 2014, was little more than a bureaucratic pretext to invade Ukraine.

#9 Perhaps he could make a personal visit to Ukraine to encourage Russians to stop igniting so much explosive and releasing all that carbon into Gaia's lungs. I doubt they're interesting in buying carbon credits from him just now, though. |

#7 More The Serious People, seen from a twitter link: MSNBC guest just said Ukrainians can’t find knee pads and it’s something “you need to shoot a gun.” Guess we know why Kumala was sent to Europe. |

#6 Since he was next in line, that leaves open the possibility of a McCain presidency. |

#5 No matter how horrible Kerry is, would the world be better if he'd been elected President in 2004? Would he have reversed the Iraq/Afghan wars while the left was still against them? Would Obama have had a chance in 2008 against a Democrat incumbent? If Kerry got two terms the world would have been ready for a GOP President in 2012 so Obama would have missed his chance until at least 2016. Interesting to consider. |

#2 Would it be ok if Putin attacked in all electric vehicles? Climate change is truly amazing as it not only stops oceans from rising but now potentially can prevent world wars. |
