Long COVID expert says the world is in 'deep trouble' and millions may suffer from debilitating physical and cognitive issues for YEARS after being infected
2022-01-27
Isn't that old AGE?
  • While the Covid pandemic could come to an end at some point this year, the long-term effects of the virus will linger

  • 'Long Covid' is a mysterious yet surprisingly common condition where someone feels effects of Covid long after infection - sometimes to a debilitating effect
    How common? Hard numbers needed.
  • With millions of Americans having contracted Covid in recent weeks, and up to 30% of them likely to develop long Covid, it could be a massive issue

  • One expert, Dr Leonard Jason, warns that the condition can disrupt the every day life of millions and hurt society as a whole

  • Another, Dr Noah Greenspan, warns that the world's current Covid situation puts it in 'deep trouble'
Could, may and up to? Someone is having fun panicking. Also, given that this is only the second year that Covid-19 has been out in the wild, our precious Long Covid specialists need at least three more years of data before they can come up with a reliable prognosis.

#6  Covid will be for medicine what global warming is for energy. Blame, blame, blame.

I used this graphic in a posting the other day, and liked it. But wait! There will be even more covid stuff to worry about!

#4  Long Covid looks an awful lot like a variety of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. CFS most often is triggered by an immune system overreaction to an infection — any infection. According to the NIH

Studies have given a current prevalence rate ranging from 0.007% to 2.8% in the general adult U.S. population and from 0.006% to 3.0% in the primary care population.

Whether or not Long Covid is eventually included as CFS depends on whether most cases resolve within a year or so, within three years, or never. If within a year, it’s just a slow healing version of Covid, if within three it’s a benign version of CFS, if never — typical CFS.

#3  Sounds like the symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Dr Leonard Jason (pictured), psychology professor at Depaul University that works with long Covid patients, warns the condition can disrupt the lives of millions, though he is optimistic effective treatments for the condition will be developed over time

Is this why I am seeing ads for medications which address the side effects of mental health medications?

#2  Yes. Along with the Lyme Disease people and the Morgellons Syndrome people and the neuromyalgia people. In the future we will all be disabled for 15 minutes.
