  • Destruction of the site began on Wednesday in an effort to get the area's homeless population off of the streets

  • Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, who took office in November, pledged to find alternative housing options for the city's homeless population

  • The Mass and Cass encampment has provided shelter for hundreds over the past few years for those struggling with homelessness and drug addiction

  • A city survey from December saw 145 residents living at the intersection

  • Wu has since moved more than 100 into alternative housing as of Wednesday
