About 4,600 Kosovars renounced their citizenship in 2021 for this separatist entity. This was reported on December 27 by Radio Kosovo 1.The Kosovo Interior Ministry says the main reason for renouncing Kosovo citizenship is that many foreign states, mainly EU countries, do not allow their citizens to hold dual citizenship. Thus, those have to give up their Kosovar passports.
"Many EU countries do not allow dual citizenship, as do some non-EU countries. Since a large number of our citizens have been living in these countries for years, and many were born there, they are obliged to renounce their previous citizenship if they want to obtain the citizenship of the country in which they live," an employee of the press service of the Kosovo Behar Hazirai .
Recall that in 2020, about 3,600 people renounced Kosovo citizenship.
