Idaho sheriff attempts to justify pulling a gun on church youth group who had dropped a Thanksgiving card at his home by saying he feared they were 'drunk Indians' from nearby reservation

  • Bingham County Sheriff Craig Rowland, 62, is being pressured to resign after threatening a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints youth group with a gun

  • The group of girls, aged 12 to 16, had dropped an anonymous Thanksgiving thank-you note off at his front door prior to the threat

  • After the group left the note, Rowland stopped their car from driving away, pulled the adult chaperone out of the vehicle - who he had known for 30 years

  • He grabbed the unidentified supervisor by her hair and pointed his handgun at her head, yelling profanities at her, such as 'get the f**k out of the car'

  • The sheriff reportedly told the woman and young girls to never come back to his property again, before letting them off the hook

  • Rowland agreed to take a leave of absence shortly after the allegations arose in November, but returned to the job several weeks ago

  • The incident attracted nationwide attention after Rowland told investigators he was worried that the group might have been 'drunk Indians'

  • The local Shoshone-Bannock tribes' community leaders and elected officials slammed the sheriff for his 'racist slurs'

This compares to their installation of seven safe rooms in California in the 2.5 years prior.

#6  ^Even in the age of cell phones, it could always be a panicked neighbor who I'd do anything for. Only wat to find out is to check. I can do that without opening the door, and without letting Amazon in on the deal with a Ring camera.

#2  I really have a problem with people coming to my door after dark. When I lived in the countryside, I told more than one person it was a bad idea and they should stop. I live in basically a suburb now, so the usual excuses (I ran out of gas, I need to use your phone) are even less believable.

That said, I'm glad I never accidentally knocked on this guy's door.

#1  If they were drunk indians putting thank you notes on peoples doors... does that somehow justify his response?

Everything about this incident suggests he was off his medication or has horrible judgement.
