International Olympic Committee announces $560 thousand in aid to Afghan athletes |

[KhaamaPress] Chief of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach announced that they will give up to 33 Afghan athletes $560 thousand in coming months as part of their humanitarian aid![]() Thomas Bach at the end of a two-day meeting of the committee’s executive board said, the amount of money that is allocated to both the athletes of the Olympics and Paralympics will be distributed through United Nations ...aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society... High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The chief also thanked the Taliban ![]() for supporting all sports administrations that are still active in Afghanistan and that the Taliban allowed IOC’s humanitarian aids to reach Afghan athletes. International Olympic Committee has so far evacuated up to 300 Afghan athletes, coaches, and Afghanistan’s Olympic staff. Bach said that their process of taking out Afghan athletes will continue but added that it has now become difficult without evacuation operations. He acknowledged that they are in contact with a number of countries to provide them with humanitarian visas for Afghan athletes. The humanitarian aids with Afghan athletes come as a sport is a sector that affected the most after the Taliban’s takeover. Most Afghan athletes have ended their career as there is no more sponsors and income through sport.
