2021-11-29
[SUDANTRIBUNE] Sudan’s Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok has sacked the police chief and his deputy, on Saturday.Their relief comes after accusations by the Chair of the Sovereign Council and videos activists posted on social media showing coppers shooting on demonstrators

The prime minister dismissed "the Director-General of the Police Forces, Lt-Gen Khalid Mahdi, and his deputy, Lieutenant-General Sadiq Ali Ibrahim."

Hamdok further appointed "Lt Gen Anan Hamed as Director-General of the Police Forces, and Maj Gen Mudassir Abdel-Rahman as his deputy and General Inspector of the Police Forces".

42 people were killed and more than a thousand maimed, according to the Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors, an independent medical group.

Following the killing of 15 protesters on 17 November, the police director held a presser on 18 November to dismiss the use of live ammunition against demonstrators.

However,

Abdel Fattah al-Burhan on 24 November told the Financial Times that the protesters were possibly killed "by some elements within the police and ’armed elements’ linked to political parties," denying any involvement of the army and the Rapid Support Forces.
