The Maarif Foundation was established by the Erdogan government in 2016 to run confiscated Gulen schools around the world, including all thirteen in Afghanistan.
According to the foundation, of 3,500 students, 1,000 of them would be recruited.

"Over 1,000 native Ottoman Turkish employees in the administrative and educational department are present in Afghanistan currently. We are committed to providing service in Afghanistan," said Saleh Mohammad Saghir, head of the foundation in Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Education praised the facilitation of education programs for the children.

"We wish more success to our friend countries, particularly The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
