‘Feels Like A Ruse’ - Starlink Customers Angered By Massive Delay, Some Want Money Back
2021-11-26
[ZeroHedge] Starlink, Elon Musk's internet space company, emailed customers late Tuesday night who put down a $100 deposit to secure a dish were being delayed for up to a year or more. Only days ago, Starlink customers reported on the Starlink account portal homepage that their expected order delivery time was late 2021.

The delay comes as no surprise. Musk is a notorious salesman who overpromises and underdelivers for some of his companies, especially Tesla. Last month, the world's richest man told Starlink users, "Should be nationwide rollout by the end of the month."

#4  One of the holdups is they are intentionally holding back satellite launches, because the ground boxes aren't dense enough on the ground to make more sats cost efficient. The satellites have a definent lifespan and have to be replaced on a schedule. That's why they are flown in 'clouds'. It's also why it's tied into a launch company; it couldn't be worked otherwise.

#3  I expect to see a lot more Elon Musk hit pieces after the failure of various lawsuits to impede SpaceX.

As I understand, the Starlink rollout has two bottlenecks: building the receivers and launching the satellite constellations. The launches seem to be proceeding apace, but producing the receivers has been a problem for some time, even before the chip shortage. Recently, the boxes were redesigned to make them cheaper and easier to produce.

Once they get connected, Starlink customers seem to be happy.
The fact that demand for broadband service is insane only compounds the problems.

#2  A piece of elrctronics dependent upon computer chips is delayed because of a worldwide shortage of... computer chips.

Once again Zerohedge publishes an opinion pretending to be news.
